  • Roll out in the gear you are currently driving Do you see a red traffic light coming? Then let the car roll out into gear, or do not kick the clutch. This way you brake on the engine and get this drive from the wheels, which does not cost any fuel. If you roll out and also depress the clutch, the motor will no longer be driven by the wheels. Fuel is still required to keep the engine running. This tip is especially useful for cars with an injection engine, most cars after 1990 have this. When rolling out, the engine management ensures that the fuel supply is shut off, as long as that is possible. So release your gas in time if you see that you must stop or brake and do not kick the clutch.
  • Keep your tires properly inflated It is really true that a slack tire costs more fuel. This is because rolling resistance increases and therefore more fuel is required to reach the same speed. Therefore, check this monthly. A tire pressure that is 25% too low provides an additional rolling resistance of 10% and an additional fuel consumption of 2%. In addition, a tire that is too weak will wear out sooner and will have an adverse effect on road holding. So it is also safe to keep a close eye on your tire pressure. You can also choose to have your tires filled with nitrogen. Tires filled with nitrogen remain under tension for up to three times as long. Nitrogen is dry and clean in contrast to compressed air, which can also contain moisture and dirt. The use of nitrogen is safe, non-toxic and non-flammable and therefore good for the environment.

  • Use the tools in your car Many cars are nowadays equipped with a tachometer, cruise control, on-board computer or navigation system. These help you drive more efficiently and thus reduce your car's emissions.
    - With a rev counter you can better see the right time to shift up a gear, often between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm.
    - The cruise control is better able to maintain a constant speed than a trained driver, which improves the efficiency of the engine. It is better to drive at a constant speed of
120 km / h than always to brake and accelerate.
    - An on-board computer can often display what your current consumption is, so you can see how your driving behavior influences fuel consumption.
    - A navigation system ensures that you reach your destination as quickly as possible in unknown places and avoids traffic jams and congestion. You do not waste fuel and you drive more relaxed, so also safer.

  • Switch off your engine when you have stopped for more than 1 minute Many people run the engine when they are stuck in traffic, waiting for a bridge or waiting for someone. If you expect to stand still for more than 1 minute, turn the engine off. That saves fuel. When your engine is idling, it will still consume 0.5 liters of fuel per hour. Restarting the engine does take some extra fuel, but less than running the engine for a minute (or longer).

  • Remove unnecessary luggage on and from your car Many people have everything in the car such as tools, snow chains, etcetera. Every extra kilo of luggage costs you more fuel. This even applies double for imperials and bicycle carriers. Imperials, bike carriers and ski boxes not only weigh a lot, they also negatively influence the aerodynamics of the car. An open window is also bad for the aerodynamic shape and causes a higher fuel consumption.

  • Limit the use of electricity in your car These are real energy consumers: air conditioning, (rear) window heating and seat heating. The air conditioning alone can generate 10% extra fuel consumption with average use. General usage tips for the air conditioning in the car:
-At high temperatures in the summer, first drive with the windows open for a few minutes, then close the windows and then switch on the air conditioning; the desired indoor temperature is thus achieved earlier.
    - Switch on the air conditioning a few minutes after starting the engine; this saves fuel and prevents unnecessary wear and tear on the installation.
    - Switch off the air conditioning before the engine is switched off: this prevents odor from condensation and bacterial growth. •
    - Use the air conditioning at least once a month; this also prevents odor from condensation and bacterial growth. •
    - Prevent blockage: keep the air inlets free of leaves and other dirt. The rear window heating also costs you 4% to 7% extra fuel, so turn it off when you no longer need it, but keep your safety in mind.

  • Speeding, fines and extra fuel consumption Most cars are the most economical at 90 km / h. Above 100 km / h, fuel consumption quickly increases. At 120 km / h, that is already 42% more and 140 km / h even provides 74% more fuel consumption. The average car uses 5.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Below is the consumption at different speeds

These are easy to follow steps, but they make a big difference. Not only the environment but also your wallet profits from them.
Drive carefully and with care for nature!

Sustainable driving is not only for those who drive electric cars, ecologic fuels or gas.

Nope, even when you still run on diesel or normal fuels there are some easy to follow pointers which leave your environmental damage as small as possible.

Here at ESSO Tentoonstelllingslaan, we gathered those pointers for you and gladly share them. We hope you can and will use them, because we have only one planet and we need to take care of her!

  • Switch to a higher gear as quickly as possible The higher the speed, the higher the fuel consumption and the higher the emissions of your car. Therefore, switch to fourth gear at 50 km / h and to fifth gear at 80 km / h. If you have a rev counter in your car, switch to the next gear between 2,000 and 2,500 revs. If you don't have a rev counter, listen to the engine and switch to the next gear if it sounds 'in a hurry'. The engine must 'run smoothly' to work as efficiently as possible.
  • Avoid short distances with your car It may sound meanwhile troubled, but cover short distances as much as possible on foot or by bike. When your car's engine is still cold, the engine will wear out faster, use more fuel and pollute more.

The engine of your car will come up to temperature after about 5 kilometers and then drive a lot more efficiently. Especially with diesel engines, you have to drive slowly at the beginning to prevent wear and a lot of emissions. Another tip is to place your car in the right direction when parking. Your engine is then still warm. When you drive off, your engine is cold again, so it doesn't cost any more fuel to get your car in the right direction.

Meet the Climate Neutral Group, and learn how you can become a Climat Neutral Etrepreneur.

CNG, Climate Neutral Group

The Climate neutral Group was founded in 2002 by TRIODOS Bank, DOEN Participations & Raptim Humanitarian Travel and is a Social Venture.

Together with their founders, they work in the frontline in stimulating Climat Neutral Entrepreneurship.
Their goal? Guide organizations in structural way towards their transition in Climat Neutrality, by creating awareness about the catastrophic results their  CO2 emissions have on our planet and atmosphere.

How do they create that awareness?

  • Insights = Recognizing opportunities:
CNG maps the processes that the CO2 emissions of a company, producline or services causes. Those insights helps organizations in taking the right steps in reducing CO2 emission.
  • Reducing = Saving costs:
CNG guides organizationd with a structural handle of the process to reduce CO2 emissions and create opportunities for realizing, together, CO2 reductions. This approach helps CNG to formulat'e the reduction ambitions  of the organization & in the research how the organizatin can reduce the emissions. Very often this results in significant cost reductions.
  • Compensate = Investing in a healthy Planet:
An orgaization chooses compensation by reducing their external CO2 footprint.. The emissons are compensated through investments in carefully, selected projects which, not only, contributes to the CO2 reduction, but also helps in the development of the local population, and the countries, where the projects are located.

CNG is a member of the International Carbon Reduction & Offset Allience        (ICROA).

All the projects of CNG are Gold Standard or VCS Standard certificated.

Those standards guarantee that the climate projects, are yeary and accuratly monitored & controled.

This in order to assure a reliable climat compensation scale.

Strict Quality Criteria.

Quality is very important for CNG.

They control, one the one hand, strictly the quality and services they deliver to organizations as yours, to be sure that they gain the highest quality standards possible. On the other hand they control peerhaps even stricter the products or services they take from third parties, to make sure theu have the same high quality standards as their own.

In order to guarantee this quality standards they constructed certain procedures.

From January 2018, they added the additional criterion  concerning the Additionality of their Climat Projects:

Climate Neutral Group uses an additional criterion with regard to additionality as a result of recent research. In the In recent years, large-scale wind energy, solar panels, hydropower and biomass projects easier finance with and even without additional financing such as subsidy measures; of these types of projects, the additionality cannot always be guaranteed. Because this insight is not yet covered in the GS and VCS standards and in the ICROA ‘Code of Best Practice’, CNG has decided to add this as an additional requirement when selecting hair project portfolio. That is why CNG offers wind, solar, hydropower and biomass projects only those projects that are small-scale.

picture of the 17 sustainable development go

I willl concentrate on a very small part of them.

Do you know that an average of 42%, which can even go up to 90%, of business mobility is responsible for a CO2 footprint?

If you wish to reduce your organizations impact on our climate to zero, CNG is the partner you're looking for.

CNG is already 15 years actively stimulating global, sustainable social life, as well as sustainable corporate life.

So when the United Nations released the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, CNG addapted those and supported them until today. Even more, CNG, and the strong relations they formed, daily contribute

in order to realize them.

Each year you receive additionaly, a certificate from the Climate Neutral Group.

On it the exact total of your compensated tonnage CO2.

This makes you an Social Responsible Entrepreneur and Company.

Something you can be proud of and share with your clients, suppliers and other business relations.

In the world of today, where sustainable living becomes more and more important every day, it's good to be one of the pioneers to save our beautiful, but broken planet. Become an example for your partners and employees. Become a partner of the Climate Neutral Group and drive Climate Neutral.

After they determined an insight on your organizations CO2 footprint through driving, one of their skilled mobility experts will guide you through the steps towards driving Climate Neutral & Sustainable Mobility. The contact info will  be provided at the end of this post.

But you can take some actions before you contact them, in order to achieve Sustainable Mobility in your organization.

  • Contact your lease company, more and more of them provide "Special Green Options", so you can adjust your contract, or start driving immediately Climate Neural with your company lease cars.
  • Use your Fuel Card, some lease companies, and the EG Group with their GO Fuel Card, offer the possibility to charge your compensation fee (about 2,5 cent/liter) directly on the monthly invoice of your Fuel Card.

100% Climate Neutral.

By compensating your CO2 emmisions, you drive 100% Climate Neutral.

This happens because your emission of CO2 is completly compensated by your investmenst  in one of the certifide projects CNG offers.

Too Good To Go: Belgium's Food-Heroes.

Food-Waste Facts of Belgium.

  • Every year we waste 3,5 million tons of food.
  • The total value of this waste of perfectly good food, is estimated at 670 million euro a year.
  • A family in Belgium wastes about 344 kg a year.
  • From that, 15 kg a year is wasted at home.

They discribe themselves as Food-Heroes and believe strongly that every person can make a difference in restoring the health of our planet.

They founded 'Too Good To Go' after being confronted with the fact that, even no one likes to throw away food, never the less it's a daily habit amongst Begium's Families and businesses.

They decided to take action, and found some European partners to collaborate with. Part of the collaboration was the development of the app, that today is called:: 'Too Good To Go', that went online 2018, March 1st.

The App allows everybody to make a contribution on the fight against wasting food. The beauty of the app is that, while you enjoy fresh and delicious food, you support local businesses. They reduce their waste of good and fresh food, while they gain new customers. The businesses and their customers contribute this way to a better and healthier planet. A honorable and beautiful goal to achieve.

More information about ' Too Good To Go', for customers or potential partners:

Since they became operational they gathered a community of 990.388 'Food-Warriors'.

They can shop at 3.093 partners spread over our country.

Together they succeeded in saving already 1.865.322 meals. That's more than 200.000 kg CO2 that wasn't produced redundant. Which is equal with driving one year non-stop with your car or a flight of a Boeing 747 from here to New York.

Progress of Goal 13, in 2019.

With rising greenhouse gas emissions, climate change is occuring at rates much faster than anticipated and its effects are clearly felt worlwide.

While there are positive steps in terms of climate finance flows and the development of nationally determinded contributions, far more ambitious plans and accelarated action are needed on mitigation and adaptation. Access to finance and strengthened capacities need to be scaled up, at a much faster rate, particularly for least developed countries and small island developing States.

  • Increasing greenhouse gas emissions are driving climate change. In 2017 greenhouse gas concentrations reached new hights, with globally average mole fractions of CO2 at 405,5 parts per million (ppm), up from 400,1 ppm in 2015 and at 146% of pre-industrial levels. Moving towards 2030 emision objectives compatible with the 2°C and 1,5°C pathways requires a peak to be achieved as soon as possible, followed by rapid reduction.
  • As indicated under Sustainable Development Goal 1, during the period 1998-2017, direct economic losses from disasters where estimated at almost $ 3 trillion. Climate related and geophysical disasters claimed 1,3 million lives.. Parties to the Paris Agreemant are expected to prepare, communicate and maintain, successive nationally determined contribu-

tions, and 183 parties had communicated their first nationally detemined contributions to the secretariat of the UNITED NATIONS FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE                       CHANGE., while 1 party had communicated its second. Under the Agreementallparties are required ro submit new, nattionally contributions, containing revised ansd much more                 ambitious targets by 2020.

  • Global climate finance flows increased by 17% in the period 2015-2016 compared with the period 2013-2014.
  • As at May 2019, 28 countries had accessed their Green Climate Fund grant financing for the formulation of national adaptation plans and other adaptation planning process, with a value of $ 75 million. Of these, 67% were least development countries, small island developing States ad African States. Proposals from an additionalseven countries with a value of $ 17 million, are in the final stage of approval. In total, 75 countries, are seeking suport from the Green Climate Fund for national adaptation plans and other adaptation planning processes, with a combinedd value of $ 191 million.
